The Art of Climate Change
The Environmental Coalition of PEI invites the public to its annual meeting at Beaconsfield’s Carriage House in Charlottetown on Wednesday, February 12th starting at 6:30 pm.
The climate crisis is transforming landscapes, changing ecosystems, and affecting the ways we live on this earth. This year, ECO-PEI has invited three remarkable Island artists, all of whom have, through their art inspired alternative ways of understanding climate change, to each make a presentation and take part in a panel discussion.
Brenda Whiteway is a visual artist whose work often explores the passage of time – particularly as it relates to rural life, past and present – and the effects of urbanization and technology on traditional ways of life. She will be sharing some images from her current project, Shifting Sands: Capturing Climatic and Cultural Change Through Art.
Robert vanWaarden is a photographer who strongly believes that positive and empowering imagery will help solve the climate crisis and that visual communicators are essential to building a just, thriving world. He will discuss his personal projects and the role of the Climate Visuals program in reshaping the visual narrative on climate change.
Millefiore Clarkes is an award-winning filmmaker. She is passionate about making films that connect us to one another and to nature. Her most recent work is a short lyrical, dramatic film, SOLASTALGIA which explores the anguish that climate change and a global state of uncertainty can impart upon the human psyche.
Everyone is welcome, for all or part of the evening – starting with the AGM at 6:30 and the presentations and discussion starting at 7:00 pm.
